Jeremie Frimpong has great news for Celtic fans- things are only going to get better.

The teenager was in outstanding form during the 5-1 win over Hamilton Accies as Neil Lennon’s side laid down a marker on the first weekend of the season.

Scott Martin was booked in the 17th minute for a brutal lunge at Frimpong but three minutes later the young defender sprung from the same area of the park to initiate the opening goal for Odsonne Edouard.

Frimpong scored Celtic’s second soon after and played a full part in the 5-1 victory before making way for Hatem Abd Elhamed in the closing stages.

Celtic looked to be back in the form that they ended last season in with the lively young defender telling the Daily Record:

I think I am improving all the time, but it’s because of the team around me, everyone has came back really strong and that just makes you want to be part of it.

I think there is a confidence in the team. Everyone knows what’s at stake but there’s a confidence to go out and play and win each week. The team is getting better all the time, which means there’s more chances. Hopefully I can keep it going.

While Fraser Forster and Chris Jullien gained plenty of headlines and attention last season Frimpong could well turn out to be Celtic’s best piece of transfer business.

Signed as a £300,000 project on transfer deadline day he stormed his way into the side past Moritz Bauer and Elhamed, providing the sort of drive down the right that Celtic have lacked since Mikael Lustig was at his peak.
