Craig Gordon reckons that Scot Arfield was lucky to avoid a red card in yesterday’s SPFL opener at Pittodrie.

With five minutes left to play the Ibrox substitute went in for a 50-50 challenge with Andy Considine. Both players raised their boots as they went head on for the ball, after the clash Bobby Madden showed a red card to the Dons defender killing off any hope of a late rally.

Watching Gordon’s appearance on Sportscene last night The Sun reports the Hearts keeper saying:

You look at Arfield jumping in with two feet as well there. It was quite a meaty challenge from both players there.

You look at that and I don’t think you can complain about the red card. Both players are in serious danger of going for red cards the way they’ve both went in for that. I don’t think you have any complaints when you see that back.

Last season Madden only refereed 11 SPFL Premier League matches, four of them involved Steven Gerrard’s side.

Andrew Dallas and Douglas Ross will be on duty at Ibrox on Sunday for the visit of St Mirren, in the same fixture in February 2019 Hugh’s wee boy awarded Gerrard’s side four penalties.
