‘Downed tools and incredible sulk on training ground’ Keith Jackson sheds light on Morelos incidents

Keith Jackson has hinted at Friday’s explosive training session at Murray Park being covered on social media as the reason behind Alfredo Morelos being dropped from the squad that played Kilmarnock on Saturday.

If 10% of the claims are true it har all the hall marks of Joey Barton in 2016 without the coffee making machine. In future years those involved will describe it as hand-bags and the sort of thing that happens every week in training as players prove that they are winners.

Since the start of this season Steven Gerrard has had the protective shield up over Morelos although everything from his Liverpool background told him that the Columbian had lost interest as he prepared for a fourth season in Scotland.

Gerrard’s instinct has been to dump the striker but against that he has been a key party to claiming that there is huge interest in the club’s only asset. In his two years at Ibrox Gerrard has raised just over £2m in transfer fees from the players he has inherited while signing then dumping stars like Kyle Lafferty, Joe Flanagan, Eros Grezda and Umar Sadiq.

Since the teams were announced at Ibrox on Saturday there has been some colourful accounts given about Morelos’ absence, covering the events of the weekend Keith Jackson tells Daily Record readers:

It’s just a pity that it’s taken so long for the penny to drop where Morelos is concerned and it’s no surprise either the relationship between the boss and his talisman looks like ending badly. It’s been dangerously out of kilter since the start given the player’s over-inflated sense of self-importance.

From that moment Morelos became almost unmanageable and it culminated in a flashpoint last Friday afternoon which has probably ended his Rangers career.

Record Sport has learned Morelos had effectively downed tools after it became clear to him that he would be dropped for Saturday’s visit of Kilmarnock, after doing nothing more than going through the motions the previous weekend during a 0-0 draw at Livingston.

Morelos even had the temerity to throw a tantrum as he was being replaced which was about as much effort as he had mustered during 71 minutes of huffing and puffing his way around the Spaghettihad like a buffalo with a sore head.

The toys were always likely to be flying out of the pram when he realised he’d almost certainly be left on the bench watching Kemar Roofe and Cedric Itten make a play for his place.

After throwing another incredible sulk on the training pitch his representative followed up with a phone call to the club’s hierarchy during which it was agreed by both parties that Morelos would be best left out of Gerrard’s squad entirely.

Attempts to generate interest in Morelos will be cranked up this week but after two and half years of trying it’s unlikely that an offer of Dembele Dollars will be arriving anytime soon.

With his wife and daughter in Murcia, Scotland must have felt a very lonely place for Morelos since Friday’s training session.
