For a short time this afternoon Ibrox fans were convinced that they had finally cracked the big time.
A bid close to Dembele Dollars had come in for Alfredo Morelos with their star striker on his way to Lille on the comfort of a five year contract.
Years of contempt from Celtic fans was at an end, Alfie was the real deal with the business model working a treat with two strikers already brought in with plenty of change left over from the €17m transfer fee.
The source was sound, a journalist from L’Equipe breaking the news, news to be retweeted and commented on, another sign of success for the Most Successful Club in the World.
Then reality struck. Another elaborate wind-up, a look below the surface revealed that l’journalist was at it. It was as Fake as the last two years of rumoured bids and offers for Morelos that have all come to nothing.
It wasn’t just Ibrox fans that were reeled in, a few journalists also ran with the story, crediting Martin Crupeau as the source.
The good news for Steven Gerrard is that Morelos will be available for selection for Sunday’s match against St Mirren- aiming for his first SPFL goal of 2020.
