Reports of Celtic’s interest in Caleb Ekuban seem far fetched, re-heated or a combination of both.

Earlier today a report from Turkish site Fanatik claimed that despite the signing of Albia Ajeti last week from West Ham Celtic are interested in signing the Trabzonspor forward.

Ekuban cost just £900,000 last summer from Leeds United but after 22 league games, five goals and six assists a fee of around 5-7m euros is being quoted.

At this stage of the year every transfer possibility is being explored but with the market expecting to be depressed it seems unlikely that Celtic will be paying out the sort of fee that acquired Ajeti and Vasilis Barkas on what seems to be 26-year-old journeyman.

It doesn’t take much to kick-start a transfer story, in April the Daily Record picked up on Celtic being linked to Ekuban. That report also originated from Turkey.

With a striker and goalkeeper brought in this summer Neil Lennon’s next priority is a central defender with a left-back also required with Boli Bolingoli effectively self isolating his Celtic career.
