Lewis Morgan has revealed how Jeremie Frimpong bull-dozed his way straight into the Celtic first team.

There was little fan-fare at the end of the transfer window when the defender moved from Manchester City and was marked down as a project.

Jonathan Afolabi, Lee O’Connor and Luca Connell arrived in the same category but almost a year later Frimpong has came on leaps and bounds as the senior players at Celtic suspected.

Morgan was in and around the first team last season and told Open Goal all about the impact of the chirpy kid from the Etihad:

He’s exactly what Man City would want in a full-back so I’m not sure how Celtic have managed to get him. He’d came up and trained and within the first couple of weeks I remember Cal and Broony after training saying one day ‘He has to play’.

I think they told the coaches he has to play. He’s so quick. When he said it, it carries a lot weight and the coaches listened and not looked back since.

He’s great, he’s a great kid. He’s so young and has so much energy and is just happy all the time. You see him on social media and it’s not an act, that’s how he is.

Frimpong made his debut in a Betfred Cup tie against Partick Thistle on September 25, a month later he started in a 6-0 win over Ross County in the SPFL and hasn’t looked back.

His emergence closed to door on Moritz Bauer’s Celtic hopes, this season he has started both competitive matches and looks certain to start against KR Reykjavik in a Champions League qualifier.
