Celtic can expect to find out the outcome of their interest in Ivan Toney by the end of this week.

Peterborough’s double-act of Darragh MacAnthony and Barry Fry have been very public about interest in their striker as they try to eek out the highest bid as he enters the final year of his contract.

Fry claimed that Celtic had had a bid turned down but wanted to be kept informed while his CEO tweeted about a bid from a Scottish club.

Bretford have been assumed to be in pole position to sign Toney but the extent of their plans will be shaped by the outcome of tomorrow’s Premier League Play Off at Wembley.

Neil Lennon has repeatedly mentioned wanting to bring in another striker with Stephen McGowan of the Daily Mail more accurate than most at covering Celtic’s transfer movement.

Updating the situation following the 5-1 win over Hamilton he explains:

In the market for a striker, centre-half and left-back, the situation concerning Peterborough’s Ivan Toney is likely to be resolved this week.

Celtic had a £4m bid turned down last week and, asked if he hoped to do more business, Lennon added: ‘Maybe two or three just to add. We lost seven or eight in the close season. Mo (Elyounoussi) was already here, so we’ve only really brought Vasilis (Barkas) in. In terms of the playing pool we’d like to add two or three more if we can.’

Last week there was a surge in speculation over Toney and Albian Ajeti but the only arrival at Celtic was goalkeeper Vasilis Barkas.

Despite getting off to a winning start Lennon has made it public that his squad has been reduced with more additions needed as the full extent of the fixture list kicks in starting with Sunday’s visit to Kilmarnock.
