Neil Lennon has instructed the Swiss FA to maintain Albian Ajeti’s fitness work.

The Celtic striker reports for international duty this week on the back of a second SPFL goal after coming on as a substitute.

Last week away to Dundee United he netted 10 minutes after coming on the pitch, today against Motherwell he netted just three minutes after replacing Olivier Ntcham with his goal easing Celtic’s nerves after James Forrest had broke the deadlock five minutes from half-time.

Celtic started without a recognised striker against Ferencvaros and again today with Lennon adamant that his former West Ham striker is still short of match fitness.

Discussing Ajeti the Daily Record reports the Celtic boss saying:

Yeah, so, he’s got two weeks now. He has to go away with Switzerland, we’ve made it clear that he needs more conditioning work.

So he’ll be assessed by them, and again he comes on and scores a great goal, looks a really good player, but he’s still got a bit of catching up in terms of his fitness.

Ajeti was still involved with the West Ham squad until mid-July even though he only made nine substitute appearances in the EPL accumulating just 130 minutes of playing time.

Switzerland have Nations League fixtures against Ukraine and Germany before Celtic take on Ross County on September 12.
