The Sun has claimed that Celtic aren’t in negotiations to sign Steven Fletcher with Ivan Toney and Albian Ajeti remaining as firm targets.

Overnight reports from the Daily Mail and Daily Record suggested that a deal had made significant progress but that state of negotiations has been significantly played down by The Sun.

Neil Lennon hasn’t hidden his need to bring in another striker with various stages of negotiations going on.

It appears that Toney is keen on Celtic but Peterborough and Celtic are far apart in agreeing a fee while Ajeti seems lukewarm on moving to Celtic despite terms being agreed with West Ham.

As a free agent negotiations for Fletcher are less complex but this morning at 7.25am The Sun reported:

CELTIC aren’t poised to announce the free transfer capture of Steven Fletcher but he IS in Neil Lennon’s thinking.

A well placed Hoops source tonight told SunSport no deal has been agreed for the 33-year-old who is leaving Sheffield Wednesday and would jump at the chance of moving to Parkhead.

We’ve also been assured there AREN’T currently contract negotiations with the former Burnley, Wolves, Sunderland and Marseille hitman.

Lennon, however, is a fan of ex-Hibernian hero Fletcher and has been well aware of the possibilities over recent weeks.

Peterborough United’s Ivan Toney and West Ham’s Albian Ajeti remain firm targets too, with the latter viewed as an initial loan signing.

Fletcher shouldn’t have any difficulty finding a deal in the English Championship after scoring 13 goals from 23 starting and four substitute appearances last season.

Celtic are less than a fortnight away from their first Champions League qualifier, although Odsonne Edouard is the clear first choice striker Lennon clearly wants alternatives with doubts over the suitability of Leigh Griffiths and Patryk Klimala.
