A report in the Daily Record has claimed that Brighton are looking for a £5m transfer fee for Shane Duffy.

Strangely at that price it seems that Burnley, Leeds and West Brom have dropped their interest leaving Celtic and West Ham battling for the defender.

A season long loan fee of £2m had previously been mentioned but a permanent deal for £5m seems better value with Duffy contracted to Brighton until 2023.

Neil Lennon has made it known that he wants to bring in another central defender with Duffy the name attracting most speculation.

The Record reports:

Duffy has a variety of options with Brighton aiming to offload him during this transfer window.

Celtic are involved in the race with the Parkhead outfit hoping to secure a loan deal which would cost them around £2million in wages for the cost of a season.

West Ham, however, are prepared to pay a full transfer fee for a permanent deal at a cost in the region of £5million.

Manager David Moyes has worked with Duffy during the pair’s time together at Everton and the financial muscle of the Londoners due to Premier League riches could give them a cash edge.

Celtic have an emotional pull on Duffy but it remains to be seen what offers are put in front of Brighton and West Ham.

Every club in the EPL has had an economic shock from Lockdown with all income streams down outwith the broadcasting deals.

With no guarantees over when fans may be allowed back the summer transfer market is expected to be greatly supressed but at £5m Duffy looks great value whether it is the east end of Glasgow or London that he moves to next.
