Raman Bhardwaj has claimed that Brentford are close to agreeing a deal to sign Ivan Toney.

The Peterborough striker has been strongly linked with Celtic but the public negotiating of Darragh MacAnthony and Barry Fry isn’t likely to force Celtic’s hand.

Bhardwaj isn’t noted for having a track record of breaking Celtic stories as his Saturday night scoop on Vakoun Bayo proved.

In January St Mirren made an approach to Celtic to take the striker on loan with the man from STV reviving that story late on Saturday night. That story was completely denied by Neil Lennon on Sunday with Bayo now believed to be close to signing for French side Toulouse.

With the most lucrative match in world football, The Premiership Play Off, against Fulham tomorrow at Wembley it’s unlikely that Brentford will be finalising any transfer plans tonight.

Toney was the top scorer in League One last season despite Peterborough failing to reach the Play Off positions.

With his contract expiring in June the clock is ticking towards the former Newcastle man becoming a free agent- and Peterborough missing out on a very healthy transfer fee.
