Jonathan Afolabi has wasted no time making an impact at Dundee- scoring in a friendly last night against Peterhead within hours of signing on loan for the season.

The striker hasn’t played any football since the beginning of March when he was on loan at Dunfermline but has quickly made his mark at Dens Park.

With no prospect of Reserve Team football in the season ahead getting Afolabi and others out on loan is the only way that Celtic can ensure meaningful action for their best prospects.

Afolabi was signed last July after being freed by Southampton and looked impressive in a couple of reserve appearances.

Friendlies against Albion Rovers and Glasgow Cup matches aren’t really the background to develop potential with the striker also picking up a hamstring injury on duty with the Ireland u-21 squad.

Dundee face Forfar next Tuesday in the Betfred Cup with all eyes on their Championship opener away to Hearts on October 16.
