Celtic step up defender hunt

Celtic have had an enquiry to take Mitchel Bakker on loan rejected by Paris Saint Germain but the French side haven’t ruled out a move later on in the transfer window.

The 20-year-old defender could follow the path of Odsonne Edouard who joined Celtic on loan in July 2017 before becoming a £9m permanent signing a year later.

PSG signed the left-back on a four year contract last summer from Ajax and will be weighing up development options for this season.

The success of Edouard, Moussa Dembele and Olivier Ntcham has given Celtic a high profile in France with a season long loan to Celtic a low risk deal.

With Boli Bolingoli a virtual non-person at Celtic Neil Lennon is left with Greg Taylor as his only available left-back.

Bringing in cover and competition to the former Kilmarnock defender shouldn’t be too difficult a task with Bakker appearing to cover all bases, with nine substitute places this season it is far easier to keep players involved and getting game time.
