Davie Provan has taken John Beaton to task over his dismissive comments to Stuart Kettlewell.

After the final whistle at Livingston last week the Ross County boss approached the match referee to discuss Livingston’s winning goal scored by Jon Guthrie.

Showing the contempt that Lanarkshire referee’s groomed by Hugh Dallas are famous for Beaton wasn’t prepared to offer any explanation.

Kettlewell now faces an SFA charge after the Press and Journal reported him saying:

I got myself involved with the referee at the end, but I am not having someone speak to me with such arrogance. He sent me off because I lost my cool, but I approach people in the right manner, and when someone treats you like a second-class citizen then I won’t be having that.

In The Sun Provan writes:

DURING my career, there was an average ref called Bob Valentine who used to refer to players as “sonny”. It made you want to take his head off. Arrogant referees need to back it up with performances. I hope John Beaton remembers that after his alleged treatment of Stuart Kettlewell last week. When the Ross County boss approached him on full-time at Livi, Kettlewell claims he was told: “Away you go, you’re clutching at straws.” Away you go? Beaton’s a good referee, but he should remember whose backside is in the bacon slicer.

Beaton is well known for his arrogance to players and coaches with his most infamous occasion being at Ibrox in December 2018.

Alfredo Morelos was given free reign to attack Scott Brown, Ryan Christie and Tony Ralston without even seeing a yellow card. No retrospective action was taken against the Colombian with Celtic placated after a cosy meeting between Peter Lawwell and the SFA inside Hampden.
