Steven Gerrard will depend of Alfredo Morelos to keep alive his hopes of reaching the Play Off stage of the Europa League.

Last month he claimed that the strikers’ head had been turned by the usual transfer noise from Lille which predictably failed to materialise.

That comment was made after signing Cedric Itten and Kemar Roofe but with the former Leeds man out injured and Itten looking like the Swiss Kyle Lafferty the Ibrox boss has little option but to sweet talk Morelos.

For the fifth transfer window running there has been constant speculation about an offer for Dembele Dollars but as ever there has been no concrete offer on the table other than a claim made on Jim White’s show on TalkSPORT:

Looking at tonight’s match with Willem II, Gerrard told The Sun:

Alfredo is really excited about playing in Europe. He knows for himself that he has to perform if he is selected to play. He knows there are a lot of eyes on him.

There is a big demand from myself, coaching staff and his team-mates because we put a lot of responsibility on him. He has been excellent in this competition for us so far. We know he is a real threat.

As a team, we have to supply him with the right service but he is definitely capable of playing well at this level because he has done it numerous times.

A win tonight will give Morelos the chance to impress at home to Galatasaray or Hadjuk Split next week.
