Chris Sutton has delivered an impassioned plea for Celtic not to sell Odsonne Edouard over the fortnight remaining in the transfer window.

The striker is halfway through a four year contract but after a season long loan he has already spent longer time in Glasgow that Moussa Dembele, Victor Wanyama and Virgil van Dijk.

That trio left after two seasons of first class service with Celtic fans concerned that their first choice striker is in a similar situation.

In any other season there would be an air of expectation that Edouard would be sold but with a unique season lying ahead and the prospect of clinching 10-in-a-row Sutton is adamant that he should stay as he told the Record podcast.

What message would that send out to the fans? If I was a Celtic fan and the club sold Odsonne Edouard I’d rip up my season ticket.

If this was any other season, if it was three years ago I’d get it but you are just asking him to stay for a few months and then go with their blessing. Win the 10-in-a-row and then go with their blessing.

Albian Ajeti was signed from West Ham last month for £5m with the hope being that he’d be Edouard’s strike partner rather than his replacement.

Edouard has virtually been a one man strike force for Celtic over the last two years. Last season Leigh Griffiths came back to favour for two months but so far the former Hibs striker has still to make the bench never mind a top team appearance.
