Porto have ‘joined the race’ for Alfredo Morelos with no one aware of other contenders for the striker.

The Scottish media has had a month drooling over Lille making an offer of Dembele Dollars to sign the chunky Colombian but that yarn has worn thin.

An appearance of the Lille president on Jim White’s show on TalkSPORT was as good as it got with no sign of interest from the French side.

Supposed links to clubs in the main European leagues have died a death despite the best efforts of all at Ibrox even though Steven Gerrard has dropped his hands-off message in recent weeks, switching to ‘his head has been turned’.

On Saturday Morelos watched his club win 2-0 at Hamilton without unzipping his king-sized subs jacket but in times of need he can always rely on the Daily Record to unearth an upbeat story:

Portuguese giants Porto have joined the race to signAlfredo Morelos – according to a report.

The Rangers frontman looks to be on his way out of the club after having his head turned by offers on the table from French side Lille.

The Ligue 1 outfit had an offer of £16million pound rejected by Rangers, who are holding out for the £20m they want for the Colombian striker.

And now Porto want to bring him to Liga Nos after he impressed against them in last season’s Europa League.

League of No’s would be a more apt description for his destination although a transfer to a club near Murcia to be reunited with his wife and daughter would certainly appeal.

With a reported £10m spent of Ianis Hagi, Cedric Itten and Kemar Roofe the need for some money coming into the club is obvious even though £175,000 was raised by selling Greg Docherty to Hull City with Hibs and Aberdeen making a contribution to the wages of Young McCrorie and Jamie Murphy.
