Shane Duffy has revealed that Stephen Kenny was all for his loan move to Celtic from Brighton.

Former Irish internationalist Gary Breen created headlines at the weekend by slamming the quality of the SPFL and suggesting that Duffy could lose his place in the international side.

Kenny took over from Mick McCarthy as international manager during the summer and had no concerns when he handed the captain’s armband to the Celtic defender.

In 2007 Kenny led Dunfermline to the final of the Scottish Cup with his assistant manager, Damien Duff involved with Neil Lennon last season.

I did speak to him when I signed, I was with Ireland and we had a chat. He was delighted that I made the move here, he knows that it can help me and make me play better.

Celtic play a lot with the ball and a lot higher up the pitch which is something that I wasn’t doing at Brighton so he thinks it will improve my game.

Just the mentality of having to win every single week, getting that knack and if I can bring that to the Ireland squad as well it’ll be good. He was all for it. He knows Scotland and knows what it is all about.

Duffy has started his Celtic career in style with goals against Ross County and St Mirren, on Saturday he’ll experience Celtic Park for the first time as a home player.

A win against Livingston will put Celtic top of the SPFL Premiership table ahead of Steven Gerrard taking his side to face Hibs at Easter Road the following day.
