Scott Robertson made a huge impression as he helped Gillingham to a penalty shoot-out win over Coventry City in the Carabo Cup.
The on-loan midfielder showed enough during his 45 minute substitute appearance against Hull City on Saturday to earn a starting spot in Stevie Evans’ side.
It was Robertson’s first senior start since being handed his Celtic debut away to Cluj in December with the teenager handling his English debut with style from the centre of the park.
Coventry took the lead just past the hour mark through Max Biamou but in stoppage time the home side equalised from a stoppage time Jordan Graham penalty to force the tie into a shoot-out.
Robertson scored Gillingham’s third penalty in the shoot-out, Coventry then missed their fourth penalty with the home side going through 5-4 on penalties.
Before joining Gillingham on loan last week Robertson signed a three year contract with Celtic.

Good young player, composed, powerful,I’ve heard some ppl at Celtic believe he could possibly be a future replacement for Scott Brown.

Looks like he will be one of the first names on the team sheet. Wind him up and off he goes for 95 minutes of non stop action. Great stuff and a real coup for the Gills to get him. The whole squad will benefit from that last 20 minutes, really gelling now. COYG

Lot of our fans gave him MOTM tonight ?
And certainly looks like he’s no shrinking violet. Handled himself well.
