Reaching the group stage of the Europa League has earned Celtic a UEFA pay out of 6,762,910 euros which works out at around £6.5m.

The football co-efficient website made the calculation with a large slice of the pay out made on the 10-year co-efficient with the hoops reaching the group stage of UEFA tournaments in each of the last 10 seasons.

While the pay out is around a quarter of that given for reaching the Champions League it is double the prize money on offer for winning the SPFL although the prize fund this season is a side show to the stakes on offer this season.

With the qualification phase delayed UEFA has the tough task of completing the group stage before Christmas as they make up for lost time.

Neil Lennon’s side open up against AC Milan on Thursday October 22 with matches away to Lille and at home to Sparta Prague on consecutive Thursday nights.
