Callum McGregor sits out Scotland match

Callum McGregor will enjoy a well deserved rest tonight when Scotland take on Slovakia in a Nations League tie.

The midfielder has played virtually every minute of Celtic’s 13 matches so far this season and went through 120 minutes against Israel on Thursday before slotting away a penalty in the shootout. He also played in both of the September international matches.

VideoCelts understands that McGregor, Ryan Jack, Ollie McBurnie and Liam Cooper will drop out from Thursday night as Steve Clarke uses his full squad over the course of three matches in seven days.

With Nir Bitton and Ryan Christie out of contention for Saturday’s Glasgow derby Neil Lennon will be watching anxiously how McGregor and his other internationalists survive through the coming days.

Shane Duffy got through another 90 minutes today as Ireland drew 0-0 with Wales at the Aviva Stadium in another almost meaningless Nations League fixture.
