Connor Goldson has revealed that he thought that the leaked Celtic team was a wind-up.

On Friday night social media started to show a team lineing up without Chris Jullien and Odsonne Edouard. Goldson wasn’t convinced but a text from a former team-mate reassured him that the French duo would be absent.

Both players featured heavily in last season’s derby matches- scoring three of Celtic’s four goals with Jonny Hayes popping up with the other.

Stephen Welsh and Diego Laxalt came in for their first appearances of the season with Patryk Klimala, a regular substitute, starting up front for the second time.

Covering a radio interview with Goldson, The Sun reports:

When asked by Jim White about the team leaks on talkSPORT and if it handed the Light Blues an advantage, Goldson said: “No truthfully we never. We went into the game – even in our pre-match meeting – thinking [Christopher] Jullien and [Odsonne] Edouard would play.

“I think a few of us saw that team but we didn’t really believe it. We obviously know in an Old Firm you can never trust anything that comes out. One day someone is injured and the next day they are playing.

“Listen, every player wants to play in an Old Firm whether you are injured or not. You try to get through it. So, we actually went into the game thinking Jullien and Edouard would play.”

Jim White then asked Goldson if he was aware the team had been leaked online or if he just didn’t pay attention to it.

He added: “Truthfully I got on the coach and I had a message from one of my best mates down south who plays for Doncaster.

“He said that Walshy [Stephen Welsh] was playing and Edouard wasn’t. I messaged him back saying ‘Yeah, good one we will see when we get there’.

“Obviously when we got there the team was true so I don’t know how he knew playing down south but he was the only person who text me.”

When a player in Doncaster, not Neil, is informing opponents of the Celtic line up there are clearly issues that need addressed within the club.

Lennon and Brendan Rodgers have gone public on the issue in the past but it seems that credible team lines are leaking out from within the club. In the summer of 2019, a document with reported transfer targets managed to surface online.
