David Turnbull has been handed a starting place for Scotland’s u-21 match in San Marino today, kick off 4.30pm.

The midfielder was on the bench for Friday’s win over the Czech Republic but is in from the start for a match that Scotland will be expected to win comfortably.

Turnbull missed the whole of last season’s international matches after undergoing knee surgery that delayed his transfer to Celtic.

After a couple of cameo roles he was handed his first Celtic start in the away match at St Johnstone but with the team off form he failed to make much of an impact.

Ryan Christie’s absence from the Celtic squad could create an opening for Turnbull in the Glasgow derby as Celtic look to make it nine wins in a row to move into top place in the SPFL Premiership.

Loan Celt Ross Doohan is in goals for Scotland with Kerr McInroy among the substitutes.
