Davie Provan has had his say on the Charlie Nicholas debate- adding his own sting in the tail.

Nicholas was slaughtered across social media as he shared his views on Celtic’s cut price transfer activity which seemed to fly in the face of all known evidence.

Six players were signed who all look first team contenders with additions brought in to the areas that needed strengthened.

Diego Laxalt arrived on deadline day to add competition and alternatives on the left but while disagreeing with the view of his former team-mate Provan did highlight the crucial aspect of timing to Celtic’s transfer business.

In today’s Sun, Provan explains:

CAN’T say I agree with my old team-mate Charlie Nicholas’ view on Celtic’s transfer business — but he’s sure as hell entitled to an opinion. Not according to Neil Lennon who describes Nick’s view as “silly.”

Pity Neil isn’t as willing to call out Celts board instead of cosying up to Peter Lawwell. Praising recruitment chief Nicky Hammond, Lenny reminds us he got six players in during the indow without anyone leaving.

Fine, but when only two were in early enough to start the biggest game of the season against Ferencvaros, it’s cost Celts £30million.

At the media conference to pick up his Manager of the Month award for September Lennon claimed that Nicholas would have found fault in Celtic signing Ronaldo and Messi.

Next Saturday Lennon will have the chance to play his six summer signings for the first time but his selection for the Glasgow derby looks like being heavily influenced by medical tests.
