Freed Celt gets new club and goes in at the deep end

Calvin Miller went straight into the Harrogate Town side that lost 2-1 to Bolton today after signing for the League Two newcomers.

It brings to an end a period of uncertainty for the 22-year-old who found his Celtic contract ending at the worst possible time.

After a year out injured he found himself looking for a new deal during a pandemic with clubs facing serious financial issues with matches being played behind closed doors.

Playing as a trialist for Plymouth failed to produce a contract but his luck changed with Harrogate and a route back into football.

All through his youth career Miller’s pace was utilised upfront in a variety of attacking roles but under Brendan Rodgers he was converted into a left-back.

In August 2018 a loan move to Dundee looked like providing him with the first team football he needed to develop his game but after a change of management he returned to Celtic in January then dropped a division, reverting back to playing as a winger for Ayr United.

Harrogate look like giving Miller a fresh opportunity, after a long period proving his fitness he seems to be in the right frame of mind to resume his career.
