It was the original roller-coaster and a decent summary of where Celtic stand at the moment.

Yesterday’s 2-2 draw with Lille put Celtic fans through a whole range of emotions with the best and worst of their side on show. It was certainly more watchable than the snooze-fests in Riga and Sarajevo.

After the flatness of the Glasgow derby and patchy performances against AC Milan and Aberdeen there was some purpose and punch against Lille. Celtic’s attacking edge resurfaced but at the other end of the pitch things remain fragile as Neil Lennon admitted after the 3-3 draw at Aberdeen.

With Tom Rogic and Odsonne Edouard introduced during the second half there are real reasons to believe that the team can really hit the goal trail domestically which is the real extent of ambitions this season.

Shane Duffy remains a massive concern, more so now with Kris Ajer joining Chris Jullien on the sidelines.

Behind him Scott Bain pulled off possibly the first significant Celtic save of the season but after his penalty block dropping a cross that he raced 15 yards to collect was concerning.

Celtic might not be back but perhaps in Lille a corner was turned.
