Twitter was set alight tonight when Alan Thompson delved into the Post Mortem into the defeat in the Glasgow derby.
It was an abject display from Celtic- flat, lifeless, lacking purpose, pattern and worryingly appearing devoid of desire which made for grim viewing.
The fact that Steven Gerrard’s side were way short of their best added to the pain of the match, they were organised and competent which was enough to score twice through a defender while Allan McGregor didn’t make a single save.
Every aspect of Neil Lennon’s management has come in for criticism with many fans on Twitter wanting to see a new manager in place.
Thompson was part of Lennon’s original management team in 2010 but was sacked/removed from his job as assistant manager shortly after the SPL title was won in 2012.
When Lennon returned as caretaker in February 2019 his backroom staff was already in place. John Kennedy continued with Damien Duff promoted from the Reserve Squad. Goalkeeping coach Stevie Woods has survived successive changes of manager.
During the summer Duff left for a job with the FAI, Gavin Strachan came in as his replacement and while Lennon had a say in that appointment it wasn’t one of his old school buddies like Thompson, Garry Parker or Johan Mjallby.
Thompson’s view didn’t attract much backing on Twitter, within an hour hundreds of fans piled in to criticise his old team-mate- the current manager- Neil Lennon. An hour after tweeting almost 300 fans replied.
End of the day Alan what chance has Lenny got when he inherits a back room team that he never wanted pic.twitter.com/GEK6fYxHH4

I’ve always been a fan of Lenny but today was his fault. I’ve watched Celtic longer than you and that was the worst performance against them

100% agree, handling of Resolution 12, lied about the 5 way agreement, took the club 2 steps backwards by appointing Lennon, never even interviewed anyone for the job. Gambles every season with CL and brings players in too late…how’s that for starters?

Nowt to do with Lawell Thommo, we’ve got probably the best squad since back in your days yet we look clueless in every game we’ve played recently! On paper the day we had better players in nearly every position than them, yet we lost. It’s how you manage then, and Lennon ain’t.
