Lee O’Connor is in the Ireland u-21 side facing Italy in Pisa today.
The defender made his full international debut against New Zealand a year ago but joined Tranmere Rovers on loan from Celtic in order to get regular top team football.
O’Connor joined Celtic from Manchester United at the end of the summer 2019 transfer window but failed to make any inroads towards the first team.
Joining Partick Thistle on loan in January provided the defender with some match time before the season came to a halt at the start of March.
O’Connor has started six of Tranmere’s seven matches this season with League Two offers him a gruelling run of fixtures to get his senior career up and running.
Ireland go into today’s match sitting at the top of Group 1 but Italy are just three points ahead with a game in hand. Jonathan Afolabi, who is on loan at Dundee from Celtic is among the Irish substitutes.
