Neil Lennon has hit out at some former Celtic players in the media, accusing them of trying to create a negative narrative around the club.

Charlie Nicholas went the extra mile in The Express with his claims about cut price options during the transfer window but he went so far overboard that his argument and views were laughed off by supporters.

Lennon claimed that the former Sky Sports pundit, who had two spells at Celtic, would find fault if he had signed Messi and Ronaldo and clearly doesn’t take note of the constant criticism.

With media outlets like BBC Scotland dominated by Ibrox connections it seems that many former players feel the need to play down their Celtic connections but Lennon believes that their one-track opinions go far too far.

Asked if it annoyed him the criticism coming from Nicholas as an ex-Celtic player, Lennon said:

I think that there is too many ex Celtic players over the years constantly trying, I don’t know, creating this negative narrative around this club. We are absolutely flying.

Neither Chris Sutton or Michael Stewart were brought up as Celtic fans but their views are respected. Sutton was never slow to criticise Ronny Deila while Stewart can have a blind spot for matters maroon. Despite being a former Celtic and Scotland captain based close to Glasgow Tom Boyd very rarely gets offered Mainstream media work.
