Scott Brown looks certain to return to the Celtic side for tonight’s Europa League tie against Lille.

The midfielder was left on the bench away to Aberdeen on Sunday with the more offensive minded Tom Rogic and Ryan Christie in from the start.

Midway through the second half Brown replaced Olivier Ntcham but it’s more likely that Rogic will drop out tonight with the Australian being saved for Sunday’s clash with Aberdeen at Hampden.

Using Brown more selectively has been a burning discussion among Celtic supporters with the Daily Record reporting:

The skipper was rested for last weekend’s Premiership game against Aberdeen at Pittodrie and only made an appearance from the substitutes bench in the second period in the 3-3 draw.

However, Lennon feels Brown’s qualities are ideal for the Euro showdown and has hinted that the captain will revert to his typical role at the heart of the midfield.

He said: “This game is well suited to Scott. He made a really positive contribution on Sunday at Aberdeen when he came on and he’s fresher. The rest did him the world of good and, obviously, he’ll come into contention to start.”

The rest of the Celtic side is likely to be along similar lines to the team that faced Aberdeen with Vasilis Barkas possibly coming back into the side to replace Scott Bain.

Celtic have their work cut out tonight against Lille who opened their Europa League campaign with an impressive 4-1 win away to Sparta Prague.

Former Celtic loanee Timo Weah came on for the last 10 minutes of the match in the Czech Republic.
