Odsonne Edouard has today returned a positive test after joining up with the French u-21 squad.

The striker now faces a period of self isolation and further testing which immediately rules him out of matches against Liechtenstein and Slovakia.

Edouard will remain in France as his condition is monitored with Celtic kept in touch about the health of the 22-year-old who has spent the last three years in Glasgow following his transfer from Paris Saint Germain.

The French Football Federation reports:

Odsonne É douard will not participate in the France-Liechtenstein and France-Slovakia Espoirs matches, counting for the qualifiers for Euro 2021.

The result of his Covid-19 test carried out by UEFA this Tuesday morning, October 6 having been positive, Odsonne Édouard was sidelined from the group upon receipt of the results, at the end of training . He was then placed in isolation. All the other tests carried out on the entire delegation, staff members and players, were negative.

The health and welfare of the player will be the major concern of Celtic and the French FA as they investigate the contacts of the 22-year-old.

Over the last fortnight Edouard has been in Sarajevo and Riga in Europa League matches with footballers given a special travel bubble.

Celtic players have been tested since the start of June without any positive results until today. In last months international fixtures the Czech Republic were forced to isolate their first team squad and management team with a shadow squad completing the Nations League match against Scotland.
