The SFA have bottled out of suspending Steven Gerrard after the Ibrox boss questioned the impartiality of Kevin Clancy.

After Alfredo Morelos got a sore knee in a game against Dundee United last month the Ibrox boss queried whether no action would be taken if the situation had been reversed.

Ross County boss Steven Kettlewell was hit with a three match touchline ban for similar comments about John Beaton.

It was a black or white case but rather than make a decision the SFA opted for the uniquely Scottish legal term that the charge was ‘not proven’.

Responding tonight in a manner straight off an angry message-board the Ibrox club stated:

RANGERS are unsurprised at the outcome of todays hearing but remain bemused that the charge was brought against our manager Steven Gerrard in the first place. We now look forward to focussing on more important matters on the field of play.

Gerrard will be in the dug-out for Saturday’s Glasgow derby which will be refereed by John Beaton.
