Normally you can set your watch by Chris Sutton tweeting within minutes of the final whistle of a Celtic fixture.

Even while on duty with BT Sport or BBC 5 Live you can normally expect a sharp reaction to however Celtic have fared. After last Saturday’s Derby defeat he tweeted about Celtic’s reserve side, in midweek he was on co-commentary duty for the 3-1 defeat from AC Milan in the Europa League.

Today’s draw at Aberdeen saw Celtic fans pushed through every emotion from delight to despair as two more points were thrown away with the defence at fault throughout the 90 minutes and three crucial minutes of stoppage time.

After the final whistle Neil Lennon was the target for Celtic fans anger across social media. Frustrated and angry about a performance that was patchy and unconvincing throughout in keeping with the season to date.

There will be no let up in the coming days. Odsonne Edouard and Nir Bitton may be in the squad to face French league leaders Lille on Thursday but there appears to be a malaise inside the club that isn’t going to be turned around.

From his media seat Sutton has watched a succession of managers leave Glasgow in various circumstances, watching a close friend go through what looks like an inevitable process must be especially painful.

Two hours after the final whistle there was no sign of a post match interview with Neil Lennon on Celtic’s You Tube channel.
