Celtic fans reacted with delight at 9.25pm on Deadline Day as the club announced the loan signing of Diego Laxalt from AC Milan.
The move had been heavily speculated on throughout the day but with no pictures emerging and suggestions split between having a medical in Glasgow or London some doubts began to creep in.
When Celtic’s Twitter account switched to Spanish there was a sigh of relief, once the welcome story and accompanying video surfaced there was an explosion of GIFs and joy.
Things haven’t gone to plan for Laxalt since he moved to AC Milan from Genoa two years ago but there is a certain sense of comfort in signing an international defender from Uruguay. He isn’t likely to be another Marvin Compper.
Without any competitive football this season the task for the Celtic backroom team is to get the new bhoy upto speed as quickly as possible.
It does seem something of a stretch/risk to consider Laxalt for the Glasgow derby on October 17 but with two matches every week between international breaks it won’t be long before Celtic fans get to see their first ever Uruguayan player.

Interesting transfer if honest, he’s got Mo/Forrest/Johnston as competition from a winger view but can play LB if needed so got Taylor as a challenge too. Like he has good ability & sadly never kicked on for Genoa or AC Milan

Finally a bit of Uruguay in Scotland! We have a lot in common, specially in football. Trust me, as a scottish inmigrant descendant in Uruguay I know where the blood goes…
