Marian Shved’s loan spell with Mechelen is starting to resemble his Celtic career- minus the goal.
In mid August the winger joined the Belgian side on loan hoping to put behind him a season at Celtic that totalled 25 minutes across three appearances despite opening up with a debut goal away to Nomme Kalju.
Mechelen promised a fresh start in a less pressured environment but so far, after 12 matches of the season he has only played for 55 minutes across three matches.
On Saturday Mechelen won 2-1 away to Zulte Waregem, their first win in five matches, three substitutes were used during the match but Shved was left on the bench for 90 minutes.
After impressing Celtic into spending £1.5m in the first half of the 2018/19 season it is looking like two seasons with minimal game time for 23-year-old.
A loan deal elsewhere could be arranged in January but the evidence of his time in Belgium suggests that there is little likelihood of Shved living upto the promise of the You Tube videos that followed his arrival as a Celtic player.
Shved is under contract with Celtic until June 2023.
