Kris Commons believes that Neil Lennon sent out a clear message with his team selection against Motherwell.

After losing 4-1 to Sparta Prague every aspect of the Celtic side was slammed by supporters as they demanded change to prevent any further ground being lost in the SPFL title race. Lennon called for culture change after that reverse but with two changes in his side he came up with a 4-1 win away to Motherwell.

Scott Bain, Scott Brown and Moi Elyounoussi were among the main targets for the Europa League failure but when the team for Motherwell was announced at 10.45 on Sunday that trio had all retained their places.

There were two changes to the starting XI with Commons believing that making the big decisions sends a clear message through the Celtic squad.

Picking up on his Daily Mail column, The Sun reports Commons saying:

Lennon made some huge calls with his team selection against Motherwell. To leave Shane Duffy and Odsonne Edouard on the bench sent out a clear message. In the fullness of time, we might look back on that decision as being the first step to changing the mood and culture at the club.

To drop two of his marquee players for such a must-win game was a really gutsy call and, as the result showed, Lennon got it spot-on. To be honest, it probably wasn’t a difficult decision with Duffy. The big centre-half had another poor night against Sparta.

Lennon is now effectively powerless with the bulk of his squad away on international duty with four Scotland players about to play in three countries over the pace of a week.

While Chris Jullien appears to be close to a return the injuries suffered by Kris Ajer and Jeremie Frimpong at Motherwell will have to be assessed before a team to play Hibs on November 22 is considered.
