Stephen McGowan of the Daily Mail expects Neil Lennon’s tenure as Celtic manager to be ended today.

The Irishman watched Celtic lose 2-0 at home to Ross County in the Betfred Cup and conducted broadcast interviews as if it was business as usual with solutions to be sought at training this week.

Outside Celtic Park fans gathered to express their anger, online Lennon’s backers and those that have complete faith in Peter Lawwell’s decision making were keeping a low profile.

Lennon’s last duty yesterday was to conduct a general media conference where he answered ‘so be it’ to the prospect of Lawwell and Dermot Desmond withdrawing the support that they expressed as recently as Friday morning.

McGowan has been providing an insight into the inner workings of Celtic better than any other media source over the last decade.

Amid his commentary of yesterday’s events there were three lines in his Daily Mail report pointing to action today:

The Parkhead boss faces crunch talks over his future this morning after a 2-0 home defeat to Ross County saw the SPFL champions knocked out of the Betfred Cup.

Celtic directors were last night considering their position amid expectations they will act today.

Granted more time to turn things around in the belief home games with Ross County, St Johnstone and Kilmarnock could spark a player reaction, yesterday’s defeat looks sure to be the final straw for directors under pressure to act. Lennon has made it clear he won’t resign. Due a year’s money if he leaves, he discussed his situation with major shareholder Dermot Desmond and Chief Executive Peter Lawwell on Friday.

On Wednesday afternoon Celtic fly to Italy to take on AC Milan in the Europa League, if McGowan is reading things accurately it looks like Lennon won’t be in the dug-out in the San Siro as Lawwell and Desmond try to revive Celtic’s season.
