Chris Sutton’s almost universal credit among Celtic fans has taken a serious hit after his attack on the Green Brigade.
In 2015 he wasn’t afraid to share an unpopular opinion that Ronny Deila’s style of management wasn’t working, except he expressed it much more forcibly.
Sutton was proved to be right on Deila, as he was with Mark Warburton and Pedro Caixinha but with former team-mate Neil Lennon in a similar situation he has hesitated in front of an open goal.
In 2016 he famously took Derek Cheerleader Johnstone apart live on Radio Clyde but with the current Celtic boss toiling Sutton has turned his anger on the Green Brigade.
Had they unfurled an abusive banner Sutton would have been correct with his reaction but the banner was measured with the statement respectful, almost regretful in tone.
Sutton took three days away from Celtic matters on Twitter after the draw with Hibs- tonight he should be in the front line as BT Sport cover the Europa League tie with Sparta Prague.
Sorry Chris mate fans have the right to be frustrated and annoyed at the way Lennon has the team playing it is farcical and if it was any other manager that was your friend u would be applauding what was done today! Ronny Delia is the perfect example of this!

Big Derek Johnstone would be blushing

The difference between your treatment of Ronny Deila and Neil Lennon is night and day and smacks of hypocrisy Chris. The results and performances have been pathetic this season. If there were fans in the stands a banner would be seen as small fry.

Well off beam with this Chris, l know he’s your buddy but far too important to indulge him in this of all seasons.

No fans in the stadium & no club reaction or interest in social media.
So Chris, other than writing a fairly polite statement & banner expressing their disappointment, how should they express what is clearly now a majority view? McNeil & Burns were sacked. Lenny is accountable.— John Hughes (@yogijunior3) November 25, 2020
It is possible to love Lenny AND think he isn’t good enough
European – awful
Team shape – awful, esp when we lose the ball, then we’re a mess
We can’t defend a set piece
His comments in recent weeks have been embarrassing
Few wanted him back

He’s dragged the team downhill at a rate of knots. A club legend would know to walk away because he’s not at the level required, he puts himself first, hence the banner
