It was the news that Celtic fans dreaded but probably expected- late on Monday night a trusted source confirmed that Neil Lennon retained the backing of the Celtic hierarchy.
Calls for change were heard straight after the 2-2 draw away to Hibs, they had hardly died down when Celtic dropped 11 points behind in the SPFL title race early on Sunday afternoon but anyone that has followed the workings of the club knows that decision making is slow.
Ultimately the big decisions fall to Dermot Desmond, a man who hasn’t been pictured at a match this season. Various rumours have surfaced suggesting that he was flying into Glasgow but as they died off another version of ‘DD arriving tomorrow’ surfaced.
As a day of predictable inactivity neared an end the Herald and Times confirmed the suspicions with news that Lennon wouldn’t be stepping down in tandem with him having the backing of the board.
The source can’t be questioned, in February 2019 Alison McConnell broke the news that Celtic had accepted Leicester’s offer of compensation for Brendan Rodgers with Lennon on his way in as caretaker.
For over a month now supporters have been resigned for a Mowbray Moment- a 4-0 defeat at St Mirren brought a halt to one former manager but after surviving a 4-1 home defeat from Sparta Prague that notion started to fade away.
There appears to be multiple issues inside Celtic Park but none seem visible to Peter Lawwell.
In years to come Lennon has a well of good-will that will remain and resurface to some extent, the same doesn’t apply to the CEO who took four months to give him the manager’s job and who is delaying the inevitable conclusion to that decision.

What a joke – if true ! An inept stubborn manager who can’t see further than gripping desperately to his own job ! It’s clear the team are in a mess .

Dreadful news, gross negligence from the Celtic board, not to mention the utter contempt they show for the Celtic fans. Lennon will not deliver 10IAR, and will ultimately get sacked after the new year derby, when it’ll likely be too late. Depressing! #LennonOut

Well, board will feel pressure if we lose 10 in a row it will hit them in the pocket and Fans will have lost trust in Lawwell

Taking advantage of the supporters once again. I’m absolutely sick of Lawwell and Lennon.

I admire & respect NL but if this is true and he doesn’t turn it round and we go further behind considering the start we have made this season, imo this will hurt his legacy big time. Hopefully I’m wrong tho?

Club is an embarassment tbh. From Desmond down they have quickly turned us from the highs of Rodgers to the laughable mess under Lennon. Well played guys. Won’t be spending another penny until Lawell and Lennon are binned

Might as well hand over the flag now then
