George Edmundson and Jordan Jones have been hit with convenient seven match bans by the SFA for breaking ‘strict’ football protocols.

The Good Time boys were caught and fined for attending a house party on November 1 with their bans running out on December 30 just in time for the January transfer window. Prior to being caught Jones and Edmundson had started three matches this season.

Handing both squad men seven match suspensions allows the SFA to claim that they are treating the incident seriously while the more deluded of Ibrox fans will state that their players are being over punished compared to Boli Bolingoli. Neither player was named in Steven Gerrard’s 25 man Europa League squad.

This afternoon the SFA published the outcome of Disciplinary charges against both players:

Disciplinary Rule 24 – A recognised football body, club, official, Team Official or other member of Team Staff, player, match official or other person under the jurisdiction of the Scottish FA shall be subject to and shall comply with the Articles, the Laws of the Game and the rules, procedures and regulations, bye-laws and Decisions of the Scottish FA.

Disciplinary Rule 77 – A recognised football body, club, official, Team Official, other member of Team Staff, player, match official or other person under the jurisdiction of the Scottish FA shall, at all times, act in the best interests of Association Football. Furthermore such person or body shall not act in any manner which is improper or use any one, or a combination of, violent Conduct, serious foul play, threatening, abusive, indecent or insulting words or behaviour.

Principal hearing date: Thursday 19 November 2020

Outcome: Suspension of 7 matches immediate

Very few details have emerged about the party that Jones and Edmundson attended on Scott Arfield’s 32nd birthday.

It seems that eight other people were fined for attending the party but no other names have been released.

Jones was signed as a free agent in the summer of 2018 with Edmundson costing £600,000 from Oldham during the same transfer window.
