Neil Lennon’s position at Celtic ‘remains fragile’ according to Stephen McGowan.

The Daily Mail reporter has a long track record for reading the signals from the Celtic boardroom where they appear to be living in hope of a turnaround in the fortunes of the team.

With two wins from their last eight matches ahead of European trips to Prague and Milan that wish seems fanciful but with no fans inside stadiums the board of directors and Chief Executive Peter Lawwell are more detached than usual from the feelings of supporters.

Lennon’s side is actually unbeaten away from home in 2020 with the only defeat on the road in the last 12 months coming in the dead runner away to Cluj which fell a few days after winning the Betfred Cup at Hampden.

McGowan writes:

Sportsmail understands, however, that Lennon retains the backing of Celtic’s hierarchy ahead of Thursday’s Europa League clash with Sparta Prague.

And, while the situation remains fragile, sources close to the Northern Irishman insist he has no intention of throwing in the towel despite the most testing period of his second spell in charge.

While home league games against Ross County, St Johnstone and Kilmarnock offer some prospect of respite the champions face a testing trip to Prague to face a Sparta side who won 4-1 in Glasgow earlier this month.

Lennon is likely to face the media tomorrow to preview the match with Sparta Prague, since wishing Scott Bain a Happy Birthday on Sunday morning there has been nothing on the Celtic twitter account.
