Neil Lennon believes that Celtic will see the benefits of Leigh Griffiths’ Scotland recall.

The striker has only started one Celtic match this season, lasting 45 minutes of the Europa League tie against AC Milan, but has been named in Steve Clarke’s squad for next week’s Euro 2020 Play Off tie against Serbia.

Lyndon Dykes looks like starting the match in Belgrade but with so few scorers in the squad Griffiths is bound to feature in Clarke’s thoughts.

It is 22 years since Scotland played in a major finals’- during that barren run a double from Griffiths against England in 2017 is probably the biggest high that the Tartan Army has experienced.

Back in July Lennon slaughtered the former Hibs striker for returning from Lockdown badly out of shape but after coming off the bench to score against St Johnstone and Aberdeen the Celtic boss is hoping for an increased contribution from the recalled Scotland internationalist.

Listen I’ve got a great relationship with him as I do with the rest of the players, I’ve known him a long time, what he is capable of.

I understand and I do know that he has his ups and downs. We’ve shown a lot of patience with him and we’re getting rewarded and now and it’s down to him. He needs to stay on it, he needs to stay at that level but he will be an asset for us as we go along. Yes, as a club we’re delighted for him.
