Last night BBC Scotland screened the second episode of their three part Hearts documentary.
After Sunderland were covered by Netflix the state broadcaster decided on a copy-cat show from Tynecastle, for an independent producer last season was absolute gold dust.
Three managers, horrendous results brightened by the occasional win over Hibs or Steven Gerrard’s All-Stars ended in relegation with the season cut short as Ann Budge threw out the toys all the way to another defeat at the Court of Session.
Pivotal to the drama was a 1-0 defeat away to St Mirren on March 11, the last football match played in Scotland for five months. A 1-0 win for Hearts would have given the three-part series a completely different tone, a happy ending as the cuddly Jambos complete with Budge, Craig Levein and Steven Naismith all back-slapping.
There may have been a copyright issue over the St Mirren match but there was no excuse not to show the build up and aftermath to the fixture. The previous match, a 1-1 draw at home to Motherwell was covered in detail before they cut to March 13 and the news that football had been suspended by the SFA and SPFL.
Interviews with Budge, manager Daniel Stendel followed but there was a massive hole in last night’s show.
Since the start of the new season former Hearts manager and Director of Football has been sharing his knowledge with Radio Scotland as a regular pundit on their various shows.
Hard to believe that a documentary about Hearts last season doesn’t even feature any action or even a single mention of the last game they played.
What a let down!

Plus the majority of the damage was done at the beginning of the season and that was also glossed over in the opening 5 minutes of the first episode

The whole doc was supposed to be about behind the scenes stuff. The “in game” material would have been background filming when they planned it. There is only more at game footage because of what happened in the end. If we finished mid table they wouldnt mention a single game imo.

It’s like it didn’t even happen. Or their quarter final win over Rangers to be fair. Very strange editing!
