Reporting Scotland, the flagship news programme of BBC Scotland failed to mention Celtic’s Scottish Cup win over Hearts during their Monday tea-time show.

There are certainly a number of significant news stories going around but during their sport slot they found time to mention the new manager’s appointed by Livingston and Ross County.

Celtic’s win over Hearts wasn’t just any old Scottish Cup win, it completed a Quadruple Treble becoming the first club to win the competition four years in a row.

On Sunday afternoon BBC Scotland provided full live coverage of the match which extended beyond 90 minutes into extra time and a dramatic penalty shoot-out. It would be surprising if the match wasn’t one of the most viewed programmes all week on BBC Scotland.

As well as live television coverage the state broadcaster also provided live radio coverage with the reaction to the match extending till 5.30, almost an hour after the decisive penalty.

There was no expectation of similarly extensive coverage but a mention of the result, its significance was certainly merited. If appointments at Ross County and Livingston are newsworthy then so to is the outcome of the second most important competition in the most played and watched sport in the country.

Earlier in the day there were reports of complaints from Hearts fans about pro-Celtic coverage from BBC Scotland.
