The timing could of course be a complete coincidence but many Celtic fans were putting two and two together when Stephen McGowan tweeted soon after Peter Lawwell’s statement.
Over more than a decade the Daily Mail reporter has demonstrated an uncanny ability to predict the moves and thinking of the Celtic CEO, if his tweet is connected to the statement it doesn’t suggest good times ahead for Lawwell.
Two days after Celtic’s fourth successive home defeat the club CEO issued an incredibly bland almost pointless statement. Like much of the recent performances on the park.
Fans were left none the wiser by the 234 words that Lawwell contributed to the statement. A quick resume over recent disappointments was covered without going into specifics along with a call for the fans to continue backing the club.
After very little communication from the company to 50,000 fans that have shelled out on average over £500 each to watch a stream of tepid performances it seems that the club CEO has ran out of ideas and ambition. Really, there was nothing to take from the statement, nothing.
Neil Lennon didn’t merit a mention, not even a vote of confidence on the back of a run of two wins from 10 matches.
Out of the Champions League, Europa League and Betfred Cup before the start of December Celtic travel to Italy tomorrow to face AC Milan in the Europa League.
If the performance on the park is as underwhelming as the rallying call from the CEO the team could be in big trouble.
Sometimes it’s better to say nothing.

100%. Particularly when it contradicts media briefs from yesterday. “Fans bad!”. Today: “we hear you and we’re all in this together”. We are being gaslit by incompetents.

So we can add the PR team to the list of things that aren’t fit for purpose at Celtic Park.

A statement because fans are applying for refunds. More action needed on Sunday. They better believe it.

Sometimes it’s better to let people think you’re an idiot than put out a statement and remove all doubt.

Didn’t take you for a Ronan Keating fan Stephen.

You still in the Lawwell loop or has he moved on to other puppets?
