Chris Sutton took a glass half-full approach to Celtic’s 3-2 win over Lille in the Europa League.

With just one starting appearance between them this season Ismaila Soro and David Turnbull were thrown in at the deep end, driving Celtic to an unexpected but welcome victory.

Soro put in the hard graft, the challenges and interceptions while Turnbull applied the creative edge, creating the opener for Chris Jullien then scoring the winning goal with 15 minutes left to play.

It was a bold selection from Neil Lennon with Conor Hazard given his Celtic debut in goals. Further forward there was no places for Scott Brown, Ryan Christie, Tom Rogic and Odsonne Edouard but their deputies will be hard to displace as Celtic look to get out of a rut.

The only set-back was an injury to Jeremie Frimpong at the penalty for the second goal but that was compensated for by an eye-catching display from Ewan Henderson coming off the bench.
