One bizarre feature of St Mirren’s Betfred Cup win last night was the absence of Andrew Dallas who was appointed to referee the match.
Even among Scottish referees the Lanarkshire based official is notorious with an unmatched when it comes to honest mistakes.
In February 2019 he awarded FOUR PENALITIES against St Mirren during a match at Ibrox with even some of the home fans surprised by the decisions that went their way as Steven Gerrard tried to keep in touch with Celtic as they headed for title number eight.
Earlier that season Dallas Jnr had awarded penalties in the 84th and 87th minute against Hamilton to ensure a 4-1 away win as Gerrard’s side struggled to contain what looked like an Accies fightback.
This season Dallas has been used sparingly with just eight SPFL Premiership appointments, three of them Celtic away matches where he applied the usual tactics of the disadvantage rule combined with early bookings for Celtic players and late cautions for their opponents to make the stats look decent.

In November he felt that a late and dangerous stamp on the thigh of Jeremie Frimpong by Devante Cole was only worth a yellow card.
Shortly before kick off last night Premier Sports reported that Dallas had suffered an injury in the warm up, rookie Fourth Official David Duckenfield took over and after 97 minutes of action the Treble dream of Mister Gerrard was over.
Social Media wasn’t too sympathetic to the crocked referee.
Now I hear “Andrew Dallas” got injured in the warm up & the substitute referee awarded the first penalty against Sevco all season! @spfl & @ScottishFA will not be happy https://t.co/cLhk1hxNJA

Anxious morning for Rangers as they await the results of Andrew Dallas’ scan.

Everyone is saying Andrew Dallas could have given Sevco a dozen of those headscratching freekicks to swing the match in their favour last night.
Can Andrew really be the difference between them winning and losing or does the buck stop with Stevie Gee?

No player is bigger than the team but when you are missing someone as influential as andrew dallas then you are obviously going to struggle, as it has proven for new rangers. Slippy slips up again. Sad to see ?

Thoughts go out to andrew Dallas at this very difficult time ??

Anyone think if #AndrewDallas had’nt got injured last night that #StMirren wuda got a penalty or he’d have disallowed a #Sevco goal? Naw! Me neither!

Losing Alfredo was a huge loss for us tonight, we lost his physicality around the box, he’s a big big player for us, but undoubtedly our biggest loss was ANDREW DALLAS, we just couldn’t cope without him. ??

Finally, injuries are starting to take their toll on this Rangers* team. Hope Andrew Dallas isn’t out for too long….

Seriously, it is no coincidence that Andrew Dallas is injured and a Sevco @RangersFC game is reffed fairly, @spfl and @ScottishFA should be checking this now, how many pens has he given them? How many times has he reffed them?

It’s actually a bit mental that had Andrew Dallas not got injured, there’s every chance rangers would’ve won.
After all, he’s the guy who gave them 4 penalties in 1 match vs St Mirren in 2019 (2 of the offences were outside the box). Level playing field for a change. #The12thMan— Tim Trivia (@TriviaTim) December 17, 2020
See what happens when they dont have Andrew Dallas to rely on.? https://t.co/BmYDKuF744
