It was one of Celtic’s most dramatic ever trophy triumphs- and one that shredded the nerves of every watching fan.

There has been plenty of drama down the years as the hoops enjoyed 39 previous trophy wins covering almost every possible scenario and emotion but none quite like this one.

Yesterday at Hampden Celtic won the trophy on penalties for the first time ever with just five of the starting XI on the pitch for the final dramatic act as Kris Ajer drove the ball past Craig Gordon- an Invincible of 2017- to clinch the trophy.

It had started fairly routine with a brilliant opener from Ryan Christie followed by a cheeky Panenka penalty from Odsonne Edouard that wasn’t appreciated by Gordon or Neil McCann.

What happened during the second half was the stuff of nightmares as Celtic defensive issues were played out at the National Stadium, and continued it into extra-time.

Captain Scott Brown and Edouard had departed the scene by the time that the penalties got underway, Christie missed but Conor Hazard saved twice to pave the way for Ajer to claim the trophy in the most dramatic of Celtic’s 40th Scottish Cup win.
