Gordon Strachan appears to have distanced himself from a return to management at Celtic.

The former Scotland boss was in charge of Celtic between 2005 and 2009 and has been strongly backed to return to the club, most likely as a Caretaker, if Neil Lennon is removed from his post.

Martin O’Neill was in a similar position but came out with a very strong defence of Lennon which suggests that he won’t be making a return with his successor at Celtic again following in his footsteps.

Picking up on an interview that Strachan gave with Football Pass, The Sun reports:

60,000 people sing: ‘you’ll never walk alone’ but at this moment in time there are a few hundred people making Neil Lennon feel like he is walking alone.

But over the last couple of days he’s realised he’s not walking alone. His friends have gathered together to make sure he understands he doesn’t walk alone.

After those comments it is almost impossible to see Strachan stepping in to replace Lennon who was his captain and then first team coach during his stint in charge. The Celtic fans who all understand what’s going on will make sure he understands that as well

However this situation resolves itself Lennon will be able to hold his head up and be welcomed among most Celtic fans for his efforts in three separate stints at the club.

Having his management team imposed on him as well as a 12 month rolling contract is hardly a vote of confidence in the current manager who has, so far delivered four out of four of the trophies available to him.
