The Ibrox hierarchy have left Steven Gerrard looking foolish after accepting a two match ban for Alfredo Morelos after the striker’s forearm smash on Mark Connolly.

After the 2-1 win over Dundee United Gerrard brushed the incident aside claiming that it had been dealt with by Steven McLean, emphasising that it hadn’t been an elbow. It was the forearm that crashed into the United defender.

Had the referee did his job the Ibrox side would have played 80 minutes with 10 men but fortunately for them McLean is well known for honest mistakes.

Just after 3pm today the SFA announced that the incident had been reviewed with Morelos offered a two match ban with the yellow card upgraded to red.

Rather than produce the expected angry statement hinting at double standards the Ibrox club accepted the decision with Morelos missing tomorrow’s League Cup tie against St Mirren and Saturday’s SPFL visit from Motherwell.

With no offers coming in for Morelos during the summer it’ll be a tough task trying to conjured up offers, bids and clubs keeping tabs during the January transfer window.
